1. Course Objectives
After completing this course, the students will:
· Define early childhood education (ECE) from various international organizations
· Identify the purpose of licensed childcare in BC
· Recognize the role of Early Childhood Educator Assistants (ECEAs)
· Understand ECE historical perspectives and educational influences from both international and Canadian perspectives.
· Identify social factors influencing ECE in BC including indigenous perspectives.
· Recognize diversity in families and communities.
· Identify the purpose of the Child Care Licensing Regulation
· Understand basic licensing requirements
· Identify ECEA responsibilities related to licensing
· Describe the vision of British Columbia Early Learning Framework
· Understand the following:
Early Learning Framework Principles and First Peoples Principles of Learning, Living Inquiries, pathways and reflective questions
· Identify the roles of the ECEA in supporting Learning using the BC Early Learning Framework
· Identify key roles and responsibilities of an ECEA
· Understand professionalism in childcare settings
· Reflect on ethical behaviour and teamwork

This 10-hour course introduces students to developmentally appropriate guidance, caregiving, and inclusive practices in early childhood education settings. Students learn how positive relationships, responsive caregiving, and effective behavior guidance support children’s emotional, social, and behavioral development. The course explores theories of child development, the nature and function of challenging behaviors using A-B-C data, and inclusive practices such as people-first language, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and inclusive learning environments. Emphasis is placed on the role of the Early Childhood Education Assistant (ECEA) in supporting guidance, emotional and social competence, and inclusion within diverse early learning settings.

The Business Development module equips students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to plan, develop, and support a successful business in an international context. Throughout the course, students explore key business development functions including market research, product development, branding, marketing strategy, organizational structure, employee engagement, and human resource planning.
Using a project-based learning approach, students work collaboratively to design and implement a comprehensive Marketing and Human Resources business project. Emphasis is placed on strategic thinking, teamwork, applied research, and real-world decision-making. Students learn how marketing and HR functions align to support organizational growth, competitiveness, and sustainability.
By the end of the module, students demonstrate their ability to develop a structured project charter, apply core business development strategies, and integrate marketing and HR concepts into a cohesive business plan. This course prepares students for further studies in business, entrepreneurship, or entry-level roles supporting business development and organizational operations.

The Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) short course introduces students to the fundamental principles of promoting tourism and driving economic growth through strategic marketing initiatives. DMOs serve as the cornerstone for branding and marketing destinations, collaborating with local stakeholders to attract visitors and elevate the visitor experience. By leveraging cultural, natural, and historical assets, DMOs create competitive advantages for their regions in the global tourism market.
This program provides a comprehensive overview of DMO structures, funding models, and marketing strategies, incorporating real-world case studies to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Students will also examine the impact of DMOs on regional economies, particularly focusing on British Columbia (BC) as a case study.
